Have your menstrual cycle, if you are a woman. Hurt your mouth, such as biting your lip. Have braces on your teeth. Have food allergies. How can you care for yourself at home? Drink cold liquids, such as water or iced tea, or eat flavoured ice pops or frozen juices. Use a straw to keep the liquid from coming in contact with your canker sore. Eat soft, bland foods that are easy to chew and swallow, such as ice cream, custard, applesauce, cottage cheese, macaroni and cheese, soft-cooked eggs, yogurt, or cream soups.

Cut foods into small pieces, or grind, mash, blend, or puree foods to make them easier to chew and swallow. While your canker sore heals, avoid coffee, chocolate, spicy and salty foods, citrus fruits, nuts, seeds, and tomatoes. To soothe your canker sore and help it heal: Use an over-the-counter numbing medicine, such as Orabase or Anbesol. Dab a bit of Milk of Magnesia on the canker sore 3 or 4 times a day. Put ice on your sore to reduce the pain. Take anti-inflammatory medicines to reduce pain, as needed.

These include ibuprofen Advil, Motrin and naproxen Aleve. Read and follow all instructions on the label. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush, and brush your teeth well but carefully. Do not smoke or use spit tobacco. Cold sores can be unsightly, but the good news is that they usually heal in about two to four weeks, although sores may recur.

These lesions can also be mistaken for canker sores because they produce white spots or patches inside the mouth. In fact, roughly 3 to Most canker sores go away in less than 14 days.

These spots, however, are more serious because some can be precancerous or cancerous. If you develop a tender white spot that also itches, you may have lichen planus instead of a canker sore.

The spots are sometimes accompanied by a lacelike white patch on the inside lining of the cheeks. Oral thrush , also called oral candidiasis, is a fungal infection that causes white patches on the inside of the mouth. This condition can be painful and is sometimes accompanied by a loss of taste, a burning sensation, bleeding gums, and difficulty swallowing. Oral thrush occurs when yeast reproduces rapidly inside the mouth, usually the result of a weak immune system.

What appears to be a canker sore could actually be oral cancer. Oral cancer can also cause small white ulcerations inside the mouth. These lesions can be painful and gradually become thicker.

Keep in mind that while canker sores usually develop on the soft palate inside the mouth, oral cancer can also form on the hard palate and tongue. A sore might be oral cancer if you have other symptoms as well — such as a fever , throat numbness, or hoarseness — or if you have a history of smoking and other tobacco use.

Robinson III? Funnye Jr. Robinson, in due course, told me where I could find one of his younger brothers on a Saturday morning. The classmate had a yearbook with a full-page photograph showing Fraser working on a sculpture.

Although he would spend his professional life tending boilers at a Chicago plant, I learned that he had attended classes at the Art Institute of Chicago as a boy. He studied there at roughly the same time as Richard Hunt, who became a noted sculptor. I visited Hunt at his gloriously cluttered studio to learn what it meant to be an African-American youngster traveling across town to art classes.

At the Harvard law library, an archivist handed me a mimeographed student newsletter with a long, revealing essay by Michelle Robinson about the need to reduce racism and sexism at the law school. This was the satisfying and familiar work of street reporting that I had loved for odd years as a newsman. Finding people who had something to say and searching for common ground.

It was like writing a newspaper profile, except about , words longer. In asking individuals to trust me, I described my purposes and ambitions and offered to answer questions.

I promised transparency but not anonymity. In the finished book, there are more than 1, endnotes and no blind quotes. The outreach to prospective sources seemed endless, and it did not always bear fruit, but it forced me to crystallize my thinking. What was it again that I was hoping to accomplish? Where, exactly, did this person fit into the narrative? What was the most valuable question I could ask?

Any project this ambitious encounters unexpected obstacles great and small. I drew on my own pre-White House interviews with the Obamas and studied hundreds of thousands of words that Michelle has spoken in public. It also helped that generous colleagues shared unpublished interviews with Michelle and her mother, Marian Robinson.

She promised to take care of the vegetable garden Obama planted the South Lawn of the White House, and even expressing some envy about her dancing ability. And Obama spoke with about the presidency through the eyes of a mother, not a politician, saying that what she looks for in a commander in chief is a role model for her daughters.

To African-Americans and young people, or anyone less than enthused about the election this year, Obama asked them for more, not less. They endured beatings and jail times. IE 11 is not supported.

Research conducted by scientists from the School of Human Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University in the UK found: "Unorthodox modes of motion—running backwards and sideways, accelerating, decelerating and changing direction—accentuate the metabolic loading. Put simply, the unpredictable way in which Messi dances around opposition is arguably far more tiring than a straight sprint down the wing. This is an idea supported by research published in the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport entitled "The Net Physiological Cost of Dribbling a Soccer Ball," which concluded: "Dribbling a ball does significantly increase the energy cost and perceived exertion of motion, as well as inducing rises in blood lactate when performed at high speeds.

This again supports the theory a great dribbler of the ball must be gifted with speed and endurance in a football-specific context. So, revisiting the nature vs. Scientists from the Department of Sports Sciences at the University of Beira Interior, Covilha , Portugal, found that anaerobic power essentially speed and power was influenced by "30 to 90 percent" by genetic factors and peak oxygen uptake endurance was influenced by "40 to 70 percent.

My guess is probably not, and the below video seems to support this idea. Atletico won on the night, to progress on aggregate, and afterwards UEFA's official game statistics showed Messi ran just 6.

This was only 1. Again, to quote sports scientists from the School of Human Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University , "The distance covered by players tends to under-reflect the energy expended.

So, is it possible Messi just understands the art of dribbling better than sports academics and statisticians? Use that misconception to your advantage. Stop drooling. Mark out various training exercises using cones at different distances and angles to vary your running stance. Start the exercise by initially working without the ball. Instead, focus on your balance, your reactions and your ability to accelerate and decelerate.

Concentrate on exercises that require a lot of short, sharp turns in small, tight spaces. Body shape is key. When do you introduce the ball to the drill, focus on touching the ball with each step and with both feet, gradually building up speed and momentum. You will have to earn that fear and respect. The stage is now yours….

Keep the ball moving on either foot. Messi has a deliberate running style, which involves attacking his opponent head-on. This reduces the amount of time the opponent has to set himself for the attack and keeps him guessing about the next move. He does not rely on the turbo-charged pace and strength of a player such as Gareth Bale, nor the power, electrifying footwork and trickery of Cristiano Ronaldo. Instead, he elects to run directly at his opponent and uses his balance and turn of pace to slalom his way into space behind the defender.

One of the most hilarious takes on the "Over " meme is this one featuring the hit Nintendo shooter, Star Fox Here there is an overzealous Vegeta ready to spout his famous line at a moment's notice. Vegeta isn't one that is a stranger to mistakes and this one surely won't be his last.

The funniest part is that this meme can also represent early internet users that were quick to throw out this joke at the first sight of a number over the dreaded Street Fighter X Tekken was a fighting game crossover that fans were beyond hyped for.

The game featured a clash of two of the fighting game genre's greatest juggernauts. It also featured a great reference to the classic meme. After Bryan asks Jack how tough their opponents are Jack scans them, revealing a classy over rating. If there's one thing that the internet loves it's mixing just about any series with the series, King of the Hill for a quick laugh , as seen in this "Over " meme. The funniest thing about this one is that it's just so random.

In , a video was posted online which looped Vegeta screaming the phrase, and the meme was shared more than 13 million times - and that's not counting its spinoffs.

For fans, the funniest part about the meme is the fact that is was a total mistake. That's right! Vegeta's cry isn't a canon one because Brian Drummond said the wrong number. In the script, the actor was meant to say Goku's power level was over , but he misspoke during recording. The series is being handled by the same production group behind the Cowboy Bebop live-action adaptation.

About "Over " is a popular catchphrase based on an awkwardly translated quote from the Japanese manga anime series Dragon Ball Z that is typically used as an innumerable quantifier to describe a large number of something like "several", "lots", "butt loads" and even the metric "ass tonne".

Origin The line was originally said by Vegeta, one of the main recurring characters featured in the series, and voiced by English voice actor Brian Drummond in the 21st episode of Dragon Ball Z Saiyan Saga titled "The Return of Goku," which originally aired on April 19th, The first Urban Dictionary entry for "over " was submitted on November 21st, , defined as: What the scouter says about Goku's power level.

Any more than that and the population will grow, any less than a NIR of 2. The reason why the NIR percent is 2. Once we know the NIR, we can determine the doubling time. Doubling time is how many years it would take for a defined population to double in size, assuming that NIR stays the same over time. Three key factors to understand when trying to predict or analyze population change are the total fertility rate, infant mortality rate, and life expectancy at birth.

Total fertility rate TFR is the average number of children a woman would be expected to have during childbearing years between years old. The global average for TFRs is about 2. Fertility patterns can vary widely within countries. Racial and ethnic minorities may have higher fertility rates than the majority, and families with low incomes or low levels of education typically have more children than those that are affluent or well-educated.

Women who work outside the home typically have fewer children than those who stay home, and rural families tend to have more children than city dwellers. In , the number of births per 1, people worldwide was 20, with extremes ranging from a low of 8 or 9 mainly in Northern and Western Europe and Hong Kong , to 60 or more in a few West African nations Population Reference Bureau, World Population Data Sheet, pp.

Mortality is the second significant variable that shapes population trends. Death rates are highest among infants, young children, and the elderly, so societies with many older adults are likely to have more deaths per 1, people than those where most citizens are young adults.

Developed countries with excellent medical services have more people in older age brackets than developing countries, so the developed societies can have higher death rates even though they are healthier places to live overall.

Infant mortality rate IMR is determined by calculating how many children die before the age of 1 per 1, live births annually. The highest IMRs are in less developed countries where rates can be as high as 80 or more. Conversely, in a place like Europe, it is as low as 5 percent. Life expectancy at birth is straightforward—it is an average of how many years a newborn is expected to live, assuming that mortality rates stay consistent.

In more developed countries, the average life expectancy is over 80 years old, and in less developed countries, it is only around 40 years Figure 2. This causes high stress on the education systems and, to some extent, the health care systems in poorer countries. However, more developed countries tend to have older demographics, which tends to cause stress on the health care and social safety nets of those countries.

Introductory reading s Demographics : a guide to methods and data sources for media, business, and government by Steve H.

Demographics has become a critical dimension of the work of many journalists, business professionals, and government analysts and managers. Yet those who are not professional demographers often find locating and effectively using demographics difficult. Demographics provides a single-volume resource that is readily understandable by everyone.

It describes and demonstrates how students and working professionals can obtain, use, and communicate demographic information effectively. This 4 volume set looks at population and demography. This is a good starting place for research.

Malthus : a very short introduction by Donald Winch. Thomas Robert Malthus was an English cleric whose ideas, as expounded in his most famous work the Essay on the Principle of Population , caused a storm of controversy.

This funicular, which first opened in , is the second oldest funicular of its kind in the world. A system of weights and counterweights is used to help to raise the carriages up and down the hill. The funicular is the fastest way to get to the top of Castle Hill, and is exceedingly popular because of its panoramic views out across the Danube.

You can also get there with this Segway tour. The speed of ascent was actually slowed down as of , to give passengers more time to enjoy their ride.

In fact the soldier standing guard is actively looking for enemies at the perimiter until the child gets on, before signalling the pilot to take off with a punch to the door. The dreams are explained in the game as being a result of Shepard's deteriorating emotional and psychological state.

When creating a new Shepard, the player is able to select a psych history background, but no matter which one the player chooses, it is made clear that the losses and sacrifices are starting to take their toll on Shepard. In game this manifests itself as nightmares. Shepard has nightmares at key points during the game whenever an important character dies. The first one is after the child dies in the beginning, followed by more nightmares after Mordin, and Thane's deaths in my playthrough at least.

In the dreams Shepard chases after the child but is never able to save him from the flames. It's clear imagery. We also see ghosts of the many faceless civilians and soldiers that have died along the way. As I mentioned in point 1. Saren, Benezia, TIM. It is established canon that there is no indoctrination "attempt" or "trial". A Person simply becomes indoctrinated, and once that happens, he does not simply break indoctrination and return to normal through sheer will.

It is a permanent condition. Even if the whole ending sequence was some kind of test for Shepard, successfully breaking out of Indoctrination would leave Shepard a broken shadow of his former self.

Essentially a brain dead husk. This leaves no room for continuation of Shepard's story. I don't know what to say about this really We wont know one way or another until said "real ending" DLC is proven true or false. It seems very tin-foil-hat-ish to me though. I mean really? Would they risk an entire franchise on some marketting ploy? It's simply a visual representation of shepard being disintegrated in the process of becoming "reaper king".

Pretty much just straight forward logic here The pistol has infinite ammo for gameplay purposes. It would serve no purpose to having you fail during the important closing sequence because you ran out of ammo.

People are reading too far into this mechanic. Conclusion: Overall, the only way the Indoctrination Theory would work, is if Bioware retconned nearly everything that is established in the lore about indoctrination.

The theory says that Shepard is indoctrinated some time after the Harbinger Beam. I don't think Bioware went that far out of their way to disprove the theory though, I think it becoming less plausible post-Extended Cut was simply a bi-product of them just fixing a lot of the illogical or out of place elements in the story, giving it a somewhat less dream-like quality.

PrivateIronTFU said:. Yeah, The game came out like 6 months ago and the Extended Cut was 2 months ago. Its time to stop. I will have to agree. Dumb topic. Most other places celebrate the indoctrination theory as proof to how dedicated a fanbase can be. The indoctrination theory is no different than the millions of millions of theories on the ending of Inception, the ending of The Thing or so on and so forth. People can get really attached to these things.

There are a huge amount of videos on the theory and quite a lot of them are still right to this day. Nothing about the original ending made sense. Who what when why where.

None of it added up and there were gaps. So, the fanbase filled these gaps on their own to make the game more interesting. The theory did a lot more for Bioware than they would probably care to admit. Look at Koobismo's alternate ending comics on deviantArt edited. He's actually had the voice actors take a look and pledge their support of what he's doing Jack's voice actor, for instance, who has an hour long interview with his team on dA. It gave the game a whole new level of exposure and made it a heated topic of discussion for months after the game came out.

Then the Extended Cut came out and made the ending better than it was. Which, funnily enough, looking at the old endings, they weren't ever really as bad as I remember them. It's all in the heat of the moment. So, in closing, dumb topic No offense , the indoctrination theory was a fun little fanbase created, fanbase approved experiment that ended up giving Mass Effect 3 more exposure than it would have gotten, and showing just how creative and dedicated a fanbase can be.

Proven wrong? I don't think Bioware even knew what it was, and to me it seemed like they just made an ending that intentionally wasn't as players thought it could have been. I think the indoctrination theory was interesting, and for all the points made, it could have been, but once the new endings were made, they took some stuff out, and added stuff in to deliberately make it so the Indoctrination theory was incorrect. The one thing I don't like about this thread is that it's directed incorrectly.

You don't just say that the people that thought what it was are fools, because what it was could have very much been what it was, but because Bioware changed it to what it was It's like you don't even get it. Personally, I didn't hate the ending as much as others, but still. I don't think anyone that believed it was the theory should feel like idiots at all, there's absolutely no reason for it. Did anyone else feel this way?

I mean, now that I think about it, not only did it clear the ending up, but it made it percent clear that it's not the indoctrination theory, like that was the focus. There are very subtle things at the end, like one line that the Illusive man says, he said something like "I'm controlling you! Exactly, except for the fact that I think that the indoctrination theory idea was deliberately thrown out the window by Bioware, kind of in a "Ha, fans think they can come up with such a clever idea?

Not in my game! There were a lot of major and minor details that helped make it not be the theory. I agree about the tone of this thread though. Wow, a new thread on the ending of Mass Effect 3! I'm sure this will lead to interesting conversations that we all haven't heard a billion times! Boy, I sure can't get enough of talking about the ending of Mass Effect 3. N7 : This fan-base created fan-base approved experiment would not have been so bad if the indoctrination theorists did not come to various forums and try to shove that theory into everyone else throats as the truth, all the while claiming either superior intelligence or superior knowledge of ME universe.

Hence the lash-back of gloating. Because the indoc. In all cases actual events stop at Shephard being knocked out by the lazor beam, and are a hallucination from then on. It was the very core of the theory.

Needless to say, this has been over analyzed to the point of absurdity. This is all fine and dandy, but I feel as though the initial message was lost. Not just the IT, but the message Bioware wanted to get across. We didnt really give the IT a chance Just like how they tweeked the script after it was leaked, this demand for an Extended Cut probably threw a wrench in the works.

Also, people dont know that the EC was made my a different team than the one that made the original ending. I fear the ending theme of surreal, dream-like, indoctrination attempts may become literal space magic showcases. Soo after Shepard gets hit by Harbinger, hes unconscious maybe near death? Everything that follows is the subconscious struggle to get him to submit to indoctrination. I personally beleive the 'hallucination' begins after Shep passes out the second time, but Ill get to that in a sec.

Anderson and TIM supposedly each represent a side of Shepard's psyche, while he must choose between them. This scene is beautiful, because Shepard overcomes or dies. After this scene, the true test presents itself. Shepard, after watching Anderson die, crawls toward the main control panel, but passes out a few inches short.

For many parents in England, this is also quite a new concept. We decided to write an article about this interesting government organisation in view of clarifying a few grey areas. We must remember that central to this important establishment is the welfare of some of our most vulnerable people. Without an organisation looking after us, any institution offering childcare or education could pretty much do what they wanted. Having an Inspectorate raises the standard across-the-board. After digging a little deeper, we found out that they do far more than publishing judgements.

Ofsted see themselves as an improvement agency. They are now producing, amongst other things, instructional videos, useful documents, and personal guidance.

We decided to dig through some of the misunderstandings and get to some facts. In this article we will cover:. Ofsted stands for Office for Standards in Education. In this context, education is not just schools; it encompasses the full spectrum of learning environments. If you are a registered early years childcare provider, you will have to be inspected regularly.

This includes childminders, often working from home looking after very young children in private residencies. Ofsted are never far away from news headlines, and many of these stories are attracting negative publicity. The Guardian newspaper has challenged the very existence of Ofsted in a recent piece asking the question of whether schools would be better off without an authority looking down on them. Bonuses have even been talked about, which begs the question of what activities would warrant such a pay reward.

When a school receives a very negative and public report, local newspapers are usually the first to jump on the bandwagon. A typical inspector will phone the institution that they are visiting the day before. This call is not to scare the provider. Instead, many Ofsted officers see this as an opportunity to begin a relationship. But they do want to make sure they are prepared and have all the relevant paperwork at hand, a fine balancing act. We have heard stories of schools over-preparing for a visit.

An inspector needs to get an accurate description of the provider, and this means that staff should go about their everyday business as usual. Inspectors, on the whole, are very good at spotting disingenuous activities and they receive a very accurate picture once they have spoken to staff, students, and parents.

We have to bear in mind that inspections happen over a relatively short time, and sometimes inaccurate judgments can be made. Over the years, Ofsted has tried to improve this process by taking a rounded picture of the provider. This includes observations, interviews, and data. They will inspect any organisation offering teacher education including schools, alliances and colleges. Ofsted are very keen at being seen as an evidence-led organisation.

For too long in England, the educational workforce has been drip-fed ideas that have not necessarily been empirically researched. Ofsted see themselves as an evidence-informed entity that promotes and monitors best practice. There is a significant move to remove much of the burden associated with an inspection. The organisation wants to decrease unnecessary workload for anyone that encounters an inspection.

A key role that Ofsted plays is the publishing of the reports that they carry out. These are public documents and have the capacity to make or break a school system. If a school continually fails then the head teacher is at risk of being dismissed. Many of these dismissals are seen as unlawful and school governors have the power to sack senior leaders at very short notice. The role of Ofsted is to promote excellent care and education in England.

Reporting directly to the government, Ofsted pride themselves on being impartial and independent. The organisation also have the power to regulate any children and young people's service. Schools which are rated as requiring improvement will receive another full OFSTED inspection within two years in order to monitor their progress. Grade 4: Inadequate An inadequate school has significant weaknesses and is failing to prepare its students effectively for the next stages of their lives.

The management and leadership, however, are judged to be Grade 3 or above. If the management team of a Grade 4 school is not judged to be Grade 3 or above, it will be ranked as a Special Measures school. An inadequate school has significant weaknesses and is failing to prepare its students effectively for the next stages of their lives.

Other inspection methods used by OFSTED include: Communicating with pupils and teaching staff about the school Taking into consideration school evaluations undertaken by local authorities Meeting with the headteacher and senior staff members in order to discuss their findings and provide oral feedback After the inspection OFSTED will: Write a full report on the findings of their inspection Send this report to the school in order to receive feedback The completed report is then published by OFSTED within twenty eight days of the inspection The school is required by law to provide a copy of the report to the parents of all pupils.

As professionals, teachers have a pretty good idea of what makes a good classroom and what makes good learning. Ofsted focuses primarily on maths and English, and what is most easily measurable. They marginalise other creative aspects of school life, such as art, drama, sport or a range of student-led initiatives.

Often these changes are ones many of us have long advocated, such as differential reviews in which some schools are given greater support than others. While there are many outstanding Ofsted inspectors, they are hamstrung in terms of what and how they have to inspect, living with the legacy of a process and protocols which are widely seen by teachers as neither fair nor effective.
